AP PREP POST 1: SIDDHARTHA

a) list the five questions you chose and the URLs where you found them;
b) answer the five questions to the best of your ability (if you listed an interesting question that you can't answer because it's not covered in the passage, explain what information you'd need to do a proper job); and
c) explain what the questions tell you about the skills/content you need to master for the AP exam.

1) What kind of knowledge is valued in Siddhartha – carnal, financial, religious, or other? Is knowledge valued at all? (http://www.shmoop.com/siddhartha/wisdom-knowledge-theme.html#qa)

2) Consider Siddhartha’s relationship with Govinda. How are they similar, and how are they different? What are the narrative functions of Govinda’s reappearance throughout the novel? How does their relationship impact the novel’s ending? (http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/siddhartha/study.html) 3)3. What purpose does self-denial serve in Siddhartha? What about self-indulgence? (http://www.shmoop.com/siddhartha/questions.html) 4)What is the function of Kamala in the novel? ( http://www.cliffsnotes.com/study_guide/literature/siddhartha/study-help/essay-questions.html) 5)How is rebirth represented in Siddhartha? (http://www.enotes.com/siddhartha/q-and-a/how-rebirth-represented-story-different-from-377988) Answers: 1) 2) Govinda and Siddhartha has been friend since their childhood. Like Siddhartha, Govinda devotes his life to the quest for understanding and enlightenment. Govinda often disagrees Siddhartha which shows us that Govinda is not just a follower of Siddhartha, he tries to find his own teacher that can lead his way. Govinda leaves with Gotama and Siddhartha leaves for his way. At the end, two men meet and we see one succeed and one man did not. However they both respected each other's choice. 3) Self denial helped Siddhartha to move forward. Siddhartha starts his trip with purpose to find self realization. 4)Kamala is a character that Siddhartha loved. she taught him the art of physical love. 5) I tried to answer every questions but I cannot remember the story. For AP Exam, I know I have to really understand the novel and passages to answer questions. Because AP questions are not like elementary school questions anymore. Answers are not stated in the book, you really need to understand it in order to answer these AP questions.
